Best Practices for LibGuides Accessibility

This guide includes instructions for updating individual LibGuides to be as accessible as possible.

Why is readability important?

The NYU LibGuide Accessibility guide states the importance of readability quite well:

"Making our content clear and concise benefits all our users!"

As you have time and interest, consider reviewing larger chunks of text on your guides. Follow these tips from NYU:

  • Use simple and concise language
  • Avoid acronyms and jargon
  • Break up big blocks of text for easier reading
  • Put the main point of your text at the beginning.

You may wish to use the Hemingway App tool. It provides a readability score by grade level and provides recommendations.
