English

This guide is designed to help students and faculty access credible resources related to the study of English

Sometimes you have to learn more about a topic or issue before you can fully research viewpoints, solutions, etc.

For background information on your topic (or ideas for a topic!), consider checking the following sources/databases:

  • Encyclopedias
  • Textbooks
  • CQ Researcher (great for many social/controversial issues)
  • SIRS Researcher (good for many social/controversial issues)

More information and links are available below.

Encyclopedias

Free online encyclopedias can be helpful in getting basic background information on a topic. Also consider using one of the library's online reference sources using the link below.

Textbooks

If you have a course textbook, it will likely provide excellent background information on your topic. Check the Table of Contents and Index for your topic and keywords to get started!

CQ Researcher

CQ Researcher has a new interface- the video reflects the older one. Much of the content is the same as described in the video, but the navigation and report layout is different.
