Native American Heritage Month, observed in November, recognizes the achievements, contributions, and struggles of Native and Indigenous peoples throughout history. In 1990, President George Bush declared the month of November as Native American Indian Heritage Month, which later became Native American Heritage Month. The month is designed to provide a platform for Native people to share their culture and traditions and for non-native people to learn about Native American history and rights in order to improve awareness.
