STEM Summer Bridge

This guide introduces STEM Summer Bridge students to the SLCC Library.

How your SLCC Library works

Starting college is an exciting time, you get to choose which classes you take, make new friends, and take concrete steps towards your future career goals! To make the most of your time at SLCC you'll want to learn how to use our library--in fact, learning to use the library (and actually using it) can improve your GPA and help you finish your degree program. You can think of the SLCC libraries as a springboard towards the future (we'll help you reach your goals more easily). ALSO, aside from our Cafe, everything in the library is free so we can help you save money while you complete your studies at SLCC.

Hours

To make the most of your time at SLCC you'll want to remember that we have three library locations.

Our libraries are open throughout the semester (including many Saturdays) and we even extend our hours during finals so that you can have access to a good study space for before your tests. This summer our Markosian Library hours are:

  Monday-Thursday Friday Saturday

July 7th-31st

7:30 am to 8:30 pm Closed 9:30 am to 5 pm
August 1st & 2nd 7:30 am to 8:30 pm 7:30 am to 8:30 pm 9:30 am to 8:30 pm

Research Tutoring

It's easy for your Library team members to say that we can help you improve your grades and complete your classes, but you may be wondering how we actually help you (aside from study spaces). Our libraries offer all students research tutoring and mentorship.

What is research tutoring?

  • One-on-one advice about how to develop a paper or presentation topic.
  • One-on-one advice about finding good sources.
  • One-on-one advice about how to understand your assignment requirements.
  • One-on-one advice about evaluating sources.

Who are the research tutors?

Our librarians are our research tutors! Each librarian works with a specific college to develop an understanding of your assignments, professor's class goals, and we even help your professors design research assignments (so we are really good at being research tutors).
