Where are my articles going?

Week of October 21, 2024

Several students and faculty have contacted us lately about dead links and disappearing items. This is incredibly frustrating and if you haven’t experienced it yourself, it’s not a variation of “my dog ate my homework”… it’s really happening as our database vendor EBSCO continues to pull content we no longer license. Consider reviewing assignment instructions to clarify where students should look for sources (I recommend your subject area’s library research guide).

If you’re used to sending your students to EBSCO, we only have a handful of EBSCO databases at this point:

  • APA PsycInfo
  • CINAHL
  • GreenFILE
  • SocINDEX
  • SPORTDiscus

To reduce the occurrence of disappearing sources:

  • Send students to resources on your subject area’s Library Research Guide – we keep these as updated and subject-specific as we can.
  • Use new main multidisciplinary database ProQuest Central.
  • Access library resources from within Canvas- look for the “Library Resources” option near the bottom of the menu on the far left of any Canvas page (when using a browser). This includes a search bar for ProQuest Central, an “Ask a Librarian” chat box, and more links to library information and services.
  • Utilize “Email” and “Cite” options from our databases (rather than copying the URL)
  • Reach out to a librarian with questions.
