Search for sources using ProQuest Central

Use the search box below to look for articles, books, videos, and more on nearly any subject.

Some tips for finding sources

Begin with a research question

Ask:

  • What do I want to know?
  • What does the assignment require?

Try:

  • to make your question specific, without getting too specific
    • For example:  "How does the implementation of remote work policies affect employee productivity and operational costs in mid-sized tech companies in North America?"
      • Phrasing the question in this way can help your brain work through it; asking a question in conversation is something most of us have been doing for a long time.

Constructing your search

  • Pick out the most important words in your question
  • Ask: what is the main idea or concept? There may be multiple concepts making up a main idea.

Searching library databases

Too many results?

  • Try different combinations of search terms
  • Search for articles by the same author you've already found useful

Not enough results?

  • Be flexible with search terms
    • Use synonyms/related terms.
      • Remote work might also be called teleworking, telecommuting, work from home, distributed work, virtual work, or flexible work.  Policies might also be called guidelines, rules, or arrangements.
    • Look at terms used by researchers- try those too!

"Zoom out" for bigger picture

  • The perfect article may not exist
  • Consider looking for articles that are more broad

Use your sources' sources!

  • Look at your current research sources for more sources!
  • Read literature reviews or skim reference lists
  • Also consider looking at "Cited by" lists (some databases, like Natural Science Collection and Google Scholar, have this option to follow the research forward in time)
