Communication

This guide is designed to help students and faculty access credible resources related to the study of Communication.

SLCC Online Catalog and Its Resources

Online Library Catalog  locates materials held in the SLCC Library System at all four of our locations, including print books, and physical DVDs, and reserve items (like textbooks for classes).  Also use the top guide page / the Databases to find more information not in the Catalog.  Use our OneSearch (see the Databases tab) to find e-books or online videos from our databases.

Inter-library Loan Service (ILL):  If the library doesn't have what you need, consider using this service.  Use it to borrow print items or online items that are not accessed at SLCC, from other local or other libraries.  You can use the WorldCat website to see what is available in other places.

How Do I Search the Online Catalog

When you click on the Library's Catalog link above, you will be guided directly to a Key Word Search box. You may put in any term related to your topic.

To get you started you might want to use very general subject headings such as:

  • Communication
  • Interviewing
  • Journalism
  • Mass media
  • Public speaking
  • Radio
  • Reporters and Reporting
  • Television                                         Note that these headings will be subdivided by more specific aspects of the topic.

Or you may wish to use more specific subject searches such as:

  • Interviewing in mass media
  • Journalism - History
  • Journalism - Technological innovations
  • Journalistic ethics
  • Motion pictures - Production and direction
  • Radio broadcasting
  • Television - Production and direction
  • Web sites - Design
  •  If you have difficulty in finding a subject heading or key word for your topic ask librarians for assistance or call 957-4610 for the Reference Desk at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, or use the sideways, green Ask A Question service on the right side of the Library Page.
